SpainJS – THE event

We couldn’t miss SpainJS event in Madrid – we have been waiting for months! Tonnes of developers across Europe came to attend this fantastic opportunity to meet important professionals of the JavaScript developing world. It was a great event to sponsor and also a great chance to hear the innovations and techniques of the greatest people around the industry, chatting with web developers, JS developers and company leaders.

The surprise presentations of this year were Jeremy Ashkenas, the creator of CoffeeScript & Backbone.js, Alex MacCawRuby a Ruby/JavaScript developer and the creator of SpineJS. Also Vicent Mart, Intergalactic MC. Systems engineer at GitHub and Karolina Szczur, who is a designer and front end developer working at Nodejitsu joined the panel. There were many more rock starts that you can check here:  http://spainjs.org/speakers.html

The best part is that we were among them! Guillermo López from Mozilla Hispano and Andrés Martínez from  BlueVia made a great job conquering 50 attendees. Our workshop took place on July 5th in the Sala Camon Madrid and we presented the Firefox OS project, also known internally as Boot2Gecko (B2G). The main idea is that “the web is the platform”, which means that, simply, using web technologies you would be able to do anything that can currently be done in a phone: calling, surfing the Internet, chatting with your friends, playing the latest games…etc.

To be successful in this area it is necessary to create a load of new stuff, mostly APIs that use physical material (hardware) that were previously not on the web. For example, vibration hardware, a making calls chip, the interaction with camera devices… It is a huge innovation environment and, the best of all, it is open for anybody to get around, give their point of view, their ideas and materialize it in one of the most interesting innovation projects for the web nowadays right now.

After the event we distributed BlueVia t-shirts to the audience that was delighted to receive a gift from us.

Playing in Gamelab Barcelona

Games, games, games! Who hasn’t played the Final Fantasy saga? Who hasn’t been delighted with Gran Turismo? We know that many videogame fans read this blog so thought you might be interested in knowing that we took part in Gamelab 2012, June 27th in Barcelona. Known as the videogame fair, Gamelab brought together 20,000 people in its 8th year (tripling the number of last year’s attendees). The organization dedicated this year’s event to empower the videogame entrepreneurs and the SME’s dedicated to move forward this industry.

We were excited to see Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy saga that received the award “Gamelab Legend”. Also, Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of Gran Turismo, participated in the finale of the Gamelab 2012. He was honored with the Videogame Academy Honor Award.

PREMIO LEYENDA GAMELAB 2012

So yes, we had the chance to have a slot among all these people. Our events rock star Andrés Martinez @davilagrau was our spokesperson and he had the opportunity to talk to the organizers and attendees about the Open Web Device initiative; one of our main messages this semester. We’re delighted to show to the world how this technology can help people and give them the opportunity to have a connected device without the need of paying a price. The presentation was followed by 90 attendees who were very interested in asking questions regarding the Brazilian market, the architecture and the perfomance aspects ( a very important part for the games) as well as the architecture. The feedback was immensely positive.

Meanwhile, we checked the new Nintendo Wii U (best Christmas 2012 present by the way!), the Playstation’s Wonderbook which is a PS3 accessory and new games such as ‘Borderlands 2′ and ‘Spec Ops: The Line’ for Xbox 360; both presented by 2K.

We want to thank Raul Escolano, Innovation director of Wundermand (WPP Group) and Digital Legends team, Xavier Carrillo, who was really interested in OWD.

Playing! That’s what we did in the Gamelab and that’s something you can do if you try our APIs. Get registered in bluevia.com and keep it up! Interested in future events? Check @bluevia and @bluevia_es for all updates.
